You know I read this and thought "Man what a terrible childhood" then I thought for a moment about my childhood and frankly it wasn't much different. My parents didn't separate but my father was an alcoholic (who owned a bar no less). I rarely saw him and my most prominent memory is the loud thud I would hear in the night as he got so drunk he would fall off his chair. But it's all water long under the bridge. I grew up to be who I am and you grew up to be who you are. So in the end it all worked out. I don't however blame my perversion on my childhood, I developed that all on my own. As for Sat. Night Live after the Eddie Murphy days I lost interest in it. These days I watch Steven Colbert a lot, I like Lewis Black and am growing to like Trevor Noah. Mostly political humor.

Hi GratefulGirl69. Thanks for sharing additional tidbits... I liked the Christopher Walken cowbell post with BOC "Don't Fear the Reaper"... that is a funny, funny skit... I made my kids watch Christopher Walken's first major role in "The Deer Hunter"... they hadn't seen DeNiro or Streep in that movie... they thought Walken was a comedian as they had seen him in comedies like "Joe Dirt", "Rundown", "Wedding Crashers" and others... But, then, they saw him in a different light... I like comedy... caught Dave Chapelle and Tracy Morgan live... lots of fun... maybe, this will slide in here... Marvin Gaye - "This Will Make You Laugh" When you loved me I was walking on rainbows Like nobody else has done This will make you laugh But darling I staked my dream on you, aww baby This will make you laugh They never did come true, they never did come true I took a chance on young romance And vowed it would not miss But i never, never, never should have judged A heart by a kiss This is gonna make you laugh But baby, i believed in you For all my love, darling, you didn't see it through, boo-hoo For all the fools, I break the rules I love you, can't you see? This will make you laugh... To leave private messages, please use my confidential mailbox at my blog: Good luck!!!

My parents went on vacations, left me and my sisters with a few hundred in cash, a full fridge, a the phone number to a neighbor down the street to call if there was an emergency. They'd leave us for weeks at a time. We lived. Gilda Radner was the shit! Lisa Loopner and Todd DiLaMuca used to have me crying I laughed so hard. After the originals left, so did I.

People were starving for something edgy/funny and the first cast did a great job.Dan Aykroyd is pure genius. Belushi's selfish drug induced train wreck was a real blow to Aykroyd, sadly. The funniest Chevy chase movie of all time has to be Fletch. We used to watch some of the Tonight show whenever Johnny had Rodney Dangerfield or Buddy Rich on then it was straight to bed.The same with the Dean Martin show with Jonathan Winters. He is one of the funniest guys on T V. I still enjoy watching his routines on U Tube. I just can't get enough of how funny he really is! I haven't found to many comics all that funny. So many that I can't remember their names have actually been funnier than the ones that get most of the press.Got to see Chris Rock when we won a trip to New York for two nights and three days compliments of The David Letterman show.We got tickets to the show and a two bedroom suite on the 10th floor of the Paramount hotel where the guests stayed. I remember it vividly because it was right after the weekend O J Simpson killed his ex Nichol Brown and Ronald Goldman, RIP! Using more than all the road!

This is a very fun post, thank you!! I would watch SNL, Jay Leno, Conan back in the late 90's into early 2000. But recently I hardly watch those show religiously. Since youtube provides easy access to clips of shows I mainly watch my comedy there. I agree about Key and Peele, I think they are the only current show that have me literally laugh out loud. These days I still like watching or listening to stand-up comedy. Actually my brother and I were talking the other day about Eddie Murphy's comedy and how it's still really funny even today. Patton Oswald, Jim Gaffigan, and Maria Bamford are always my go to comedians where I know I can reliably laugh. Now that I think about I also like (SN Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig! (going to youtube now)

Hello: Do you have Prince Albert in a can?? Huh? Well, you better let him out Oh yes we had a baby sitter who used to help us make those kinds of phone calls. You and I would have a blast doing a mutual reminisce (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

There were many comedians on TV here in the UK during the 70s and 80s. Most I liked (but not all). My favourites were: Bob Monkhouse (who was much raunchier as a live stand-up. Strip-shows included). Dave Allen (great Irish comedian) Billy Connelly (from Scotland who's still going) Some present comedians I like are: Russell Howard. Lee Mack. Roshanne Conaughty.

SNL has been a guilty pleasure for ever. I loved those NOT READY for PRIME TIME PLAYERS!!! I agree it hit some real low points at times, but if you watch now there have been some great casts. Kate Mckinnon is absolutely hilarious. Catch the sketches where she is one of three who have been "abducted" by aliens. Crying on the floor hilarious. So good the other cast members have a hard time holding it together. Weekend Update has always been a favorite. Cowbell was great. Any Justin Timberlake episode where he does the singing spokesmen (wrappinville, homelessville) or when he sings with Sandberg. D#$^ in a box. Twin Bed hilarious. Thank you again for a romp down memory lane. It is almost like we grew up together.

I used to adore SNL when it was first starting. I mean not only Did it make it cool to stay home on a saturday night but it actually stopped parties. I clearly recall a few times being at a big high school party that stopped dead so everyone could watch the show ( one time when the Stones were in, for example). Not sure any show can do that now.
